Custom Acetate Optical Frames for Independent Eyewear Brands: MOQ, Sampling & Lead Time

JM Optical manufactures custom acetate optical frames for independent eyewear brands. We design in Shanghai and produce at our own factory in Wenzhou, China. MOQ is 12 pieces per color for ready-stock styles and 300 pieces per style for OEM/ODM production. Lead time is 7 days for ready stock, and 60-90 days for OEM after sample approval. Samples of any style can be provided before bulk orders - the sample cost is charged to the customer and deducted from the future order. You work with one accountable supplier from design to delivery.

Why Independent Brands Choose Acetate Frames

Acetate frames remain the first choice for independent eyewear brands because they offer the widest range of colors, patterns and finishes - from translucent solids to classic tortoise - and they hold shape well for years of daily wear. Custom acetate also lets you build a signature look instead of selling the same styles as every other reseller.

The challenge for a small brand is finding a factory that treats a 300-piece order as seriously as a 3,000-piece one. That is the gap JM Optical was built to fill.

Our Customization Process in 5 Steps

  1. Share your design - send CAD, a sketch, or a reference frame; our engineers assess manufacturability and cost upfront.
  2. Sample development - 20-40 days for an acetate sample, with color and finish options confirmed on the way.
  3. Sample approval - we refine details until you approve; the sample fee is deducted from your bulk order.
  4. Mass production - 300 pcs per style minimum; 60-90 days after sample approval (9-13 weeks; complex styles or peak season may reach 15 weeks).
  5. QC & shipping - each frame passes inline and final inspection; ship by air or sea, door-to-door or DDP, with customs support included.

Which Eyewear Frame Material Should You Choose? Acetate, Metal, TR90 & Titanium Compared

Choosing a frame material comes down to three things: the look you want, the cost you need to hit, and how your customers will wear them all day. Acetate offers the widest color and pattern range with a premium hand feel. Metal frames are thin, light and adjustable. TR90 is flexible and nearly unbreakable. Titanium is the lightest and strongest. JM Optical produces all four at our own factory in Wenzhou, China, and our engineers help you match the right material to every style in your collection - MOQ is 12 pieces per color for ready-stock styles and 300 pieces per style for OEM/ODM production.

Acetate Frames

Acetate gives you the largest palette of any frame material - translucent solids, tortoise, marble and custom color laminates - and it holds its shape for years. It is the best choice for a fashion-led brand that wants a signature look customers can name at a glance. Slightly heavier than the other three, it is the classic frame for optical, sunglasses and lifestyle collections.

Metal Frames

Metal frames are thin, lightweight and fully adjustable - nose pads and temple tips can be tuned for a precise fit. They suit minimalist and professional styles, and they are a dependable workhorse for business lines. We offer a range of metal finishes including matte, polished and colored plating.

TR90 Frames

TR90 is a nylon-based material that is extremely light and flexible, bouncing back into shape under pressure and resisting impact far better than acetate or metal. It is the go-to material for sports, kids and active-lifestyle frames, and it rarely triggers skin irritation.

Titanium Frames

Titanium is the lightest and strongest material we work with, naturally corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic. It sits at the premium end of the market - ideal for high-end optical lines and for customers who wear glasses from morning to night. Beta-titanium temples add flexibility without extra weight.

Which material is best for a first custom collection?

Acetate is the usual starting point: it offers the widest color and pattern range, the largest design freedom, and the lowest cost per style at our 300-piece OEM minimum.

Can we get material samples before bulk production?

Yes. Sample development takes 20-40 days with color and finish options confirmed on the way; the sample cost is charged to the customer and deducted from the bulk order.
